Experience the iconic Gudenå river

Gudenå River is Denmark’s longest watercourse, stretching 160 kilometres from its source in Tinnet Krat near Tørring to its outlet in Randers Fjord.

Along the way, the river grows from hundreds of springs and winds its way north through landscapes filled with life and history. Since the Middle Ages, the Gudenå has been a lifeline for fishing, transport, and industry, and communities, monasteries, and mills have developed along its banks.

You can follow the Gudenå from Mossø, where it meets the Salten River, continuing through Gudensø, Rye Møllesø and on to Ry. In Ry, the river flows beneath the old mill bridge and eel trap before continuing into Birksø and Julsø.

The newly established Gudenå Trail stretches 175 km past new shelter sites, outdoor facilities with toilets and showers, picnic huts, tent sites, and bridges along the entire route. If you want to get on the water yourselves, you can rent canoes, kayaks, and small electric boats at the harbour in Ry. From here, you can also take the tour boat Turisten to the foot of Himmelbjerget. The Gudenå is also perfect for a peaceful SUP trip, and you can make a stop at Alling Vest, a protected area with a fire pit and a tent site.
