Experience Skanderborg
In Skanderborg, you can easily spend a whole day enjoying nature, culture, and city life – all within walking distance. Here you'll find experiences for both body and soul, whether you're into shopping, lakeside activities, or historical surroundings.
Skanderborg offers charming urban areas, local shops, great places to eat, and easy access to both lake and forest. You can explore several different parts of the town in one day and switch between activities, breaks, and trips into nature. Below, we’ve gathered some of the experiences that give a good impression of what Skanderborg has to offer. You can easily combine the different areas and activities throughout the day.
Lille Nyhavn
As you stroll through the town centre, don’t miss Lille Nyhavn – a cosy oasis just behind the pedestrian street, with colourful warehouse‑style buildings and views of Skanderborg Lake. Here you can enjoy dinner at Postyr or sit down at La Klas Wine Bar & Shop for a glass of wine and small dishes. Also stop by Butik Lille Nyhavn, a creative shop collective filled with Danish brands and design.
The Shopping Street
Whether you're looking for the perfect gift for your host or simply forgot your swim shorts, you’ll find it in the town’s shops. Skanderborg offers plenty of shopping opportunities – from charming speciality stores in Adelgade to larger chain stores in the Bloms shopping centre. Drop by HMbakery for the smell of freshly baked sourdough and pick up a BMO and coffee to go. You can also visit Chokolade-fabrikken for coffee and high‑quality handmade chocolates.
The Urban Bath (Bybadet)
The modern urban bath features a pool, diving platforms, sauna, water sports, and direct access to the lake. Here you can go kayaking, try stand‑up paddleboarding, or simply enjoy the lake view from the poolside. Keep an eye out for events such as sauna sessions and mindfulness – perfect if you want to slow down and focus on well‑being.
Skanderborg Smuk-ruten
Take the family on a hike and experience great viewpoints and hidden gems along the Skanderborg Route, which connects the town’s charm with the surrounding nature. Follow the signs along the one‑way, seven‑kilometre trail. You can start at Mindet or at one of the marked parking areas along the route.
A Place for a Break
In the beech forest, you’ll find Rasses Skovpølser – a modern gastro‑grill with outdoor seating, where everything is made from scratch using quality ingredients. If you’re in the mood for French flavours, visit Café Noisette, or try the Nordic fusion kitchen at Leth Dining – both located in Adelgade.
Islands
Skanderborg Lake hides four small islands, each with its own story. Kalvø and Sct. Thomas are private and best admired from the water, while Æbelø and Sct. Helene are open to visitors. Paddle out by canoe or boat. You can rent equipment at Danhostel Skanderborg, Skanderborg Lake Camping, and Skanderborg Boat Rental.
