The Wooden Sculptures at Himmelbjerget
Between the lawn and Himmelbjergtårnet, visitors encounter a series of charming wooden sculptures depicting the many people who have visited Himmelbjerget throughout the years. The sculptures add humour, character, and storytelling to the walk towards the summit.
On the way from the lawn to Himmelbjergtårnet, visitors encounter a series of wooden sculptures created by wood artists Balder Mo Schiøtte and Peter Hausgaard Gregersen. The sculptures are united under the theme “People Visiting Himmelbjerget” and are inspired by the long tradition of visiting Himmelbjerget, which dates back to the first public celebration hosted by Blicher in 1839.
While the area's many monuments commemorate historical figures and events, these wooden sculptures focus on the ordinary people who have visited the site over the years. Along the path, the figures depict situations and movements that many visitors will recognize from their own walk to the summit: children at play, a hiker wiping sweat from their brow, or an umbrella struggling against the wind.
Made from untreated wood, the sculptures are designed to gradually become part of the natural cycle. Over time, they will provide habitats for insects, decompose, and slowly disappear. Until then, they add a warm and humorous touch to the journey towards the top.
