Tour boat M/S Turisten

M/S Turisten is a charming passenger boat that offers peaceful cruises to Himmelbjerget throughout the summer.

Experience the Lake Dictrict from the water side with M/S Turisten

Step aboard the historic M/S Turisten from 1903 and discover the scenic beauty of Denmark’s Lake District from a whole new perspective. Operating during the summer season from Ry Harbour, this charming tour boat offers calm and atmospheric cruises, where nature, presence, and relaxation are at the heart of the journey.

Cruise from Ry to the Iconic Himmelbjerget

The journey begins in Ry and winds its way through peaceful waters toward the iconic Himmelbjerget. The boat glides through Birksø and on to Laven, with forested hills and lush green shorelines along the way. With a bit of luck and a watchful eye, passengers may spot the striking kingfisher darting near the water’s edge. More easily seen is the elegant grey heron, often standing motionless in the shallows as the boat quietly passes by.

Julsø – The Deep Gem of the Lake District

After Laven, the cruise continues across Julsø – the largest and deepest lake in the Silkeborg Lake District, reaching depths of up to 17.5 meters. Surrounded by wooded hills, Julsø offers a tranquil and majestic setting. Along the way, the boat passes the peninsula of Dynæs, known from local legends and age-old tales.

Arrival at the Foot of Himmelbjerget

As the boat approaches Himmelbjerget, the landscape becomes more dramatic, and the hill’s iconic tower rises above the treetops. From the landing point, it’s a natural choice to make the short hike to the summit – 147 meters above sea level – and take in the sweeping views of the lakes just crossed. At the top, visitors can explore the tower, relax at the lookout points, or let children play in the small forest playground nearby.
