On Two Wheels in The Lake District
Here you will find inspiration for wonderful trips out into the open – on the road, gravel paths, or mountain biking.
To the Top with Denmark’s Highest
Do you have strong legs? Then challenge yourself with Denmark’s highest points – Møllehøj, Ejer Bavnehøj, and Yding Skovhøj. The race Danmarks Højeste Motionsløb features five routes from 25 km (253 meters of elevation) to the King’s Route at 190 km (2055 meters of elevation).
At dkhojeste.dk/ruterne you can view and download the routes as GPX files.
Also, mark your calendar for Ascension Day, May 14, for Denmark’s Highest Cycling Race.
At Ejer Bavnehøj you can take a pit stop – there are toilets and, in the summer months, ice cream and refreshments at the Møllehjulet kiosk.
60 km: Skanderborg Lake – Mossø – Himmelbjerget
Hop in the saddle for a beautiful ride from Skanderborg Lake to Himmelbjerget. The route is 60 km and is signposted all the way as Regional Route 7.
Start in Båstrup, head toward Tåning, and follow Mossø north.
At Vædebro Strand, you’ll find picnic shelters and toilets – perfect for a break.
Turn toward Alken and stop in the charming village of Boes, where thatched half-timbered houses sit side by side.
Continue to Øm Abbey Ruin and on to Gl. Rye, where you can visit St. Sørens Spring, Gl. Rye Mill, and St. Sørens Church.
From Gl. Rye, it’s only 4 km to Himmelbjerget.
On the way back, you can cycle to Ry and follow the Kulturringen Route 4 via Svejstrup to Alken and return via Route 7.
