Around Sletten by Julsø
The beautiful area of Friluftscenter Sletten invites you to go hiking all year round. Here, you have the opportunity to explore three marked hiking routes.
The three trails
- Around Sletten
- Aarhus-Silkeborg Hiking Route
- The Lake Route – part of the Himmelbjerg Route
You can walk the trails individually, or combine them and spend an entire day exploring Sletten.
At Sletten, you’ll find plenty of spots to enjoy your packed lunch, take in the area’s beautiful and varied nature, or dive into some of the activities found throughout the grounds.
Around Sletten
Sletten Rundt leads you past many of Sletten’s fun activities and unique overnight accommodations. Along the way, you’ll see the hammock circle, the wooden tipi, and “Det Ny Sletten” – an architecturally striking building designed by AART architects. The route also features playful learning experiences, such as the Nature Base with information about tree species and the low-rope course that challenges your balance and focus.

The Lake Route – part of the Himmelbjerg Route
The Lake Route takes you all the way down to the shore of Julsø, where forest and lake meet in a stunning natural setting.
The route also passes several of Sletten’s buildings and camp areas, including Det Ny Sletten, Æblegården, and the Campfire Circle, which every five years becomes the hub of the FDF National Camp – a massive event gathering thousands of FDF members.
From Sletten, you can continue the trail all the way to Himmelbjerget.

Aarhus–Silkeborg Hiking Route
Part of the Aarhus–Silkeborg hiking route passes through Sletten. It takes you through beech forest and behind the main area of Sletten, past the wilderness zone and heathland. You'll also pass through a hilly terrain where the elevation gain may work up a sweat – but it’s worth it. At the top, you’re rewarded with an impressive view over the forest canopy and down to Julsø.
