Hike 6.5 km

Start the hike at the Øm Kloster Museum parking area and follow the northern shoreline of Lake Mossø. Let your imagination take you back to the 12th century, when the monks first arrived on foot and chose this location for the establishment of their impressive monastery. You may also wish to pick up a brochure about Øm Kloster and the monastic realm at one of the local tourist information centres and consider visiting the monastery museum.

Along the route, you will pass Ømborgen, a camp and retreat centre owned by the Catholic Church in Denmark. You also have the option of taking a short detour to the birdwatching tower at Lindholm Hoved, from where you can observe the rich birdlife of Lake Mossø: black-headed gulls from the colony in the bird reserve at Emborg Odde (500 m away), tufted ducks, common shelducks, and pochards foraging along the reed beds, as well as flocks of greylag geese and mute swans.

On the dry grassland, you can find characteristic drought-tolerant plants such as mouse-ear hawkweed, yellow everlasting flower, and sand sedge.
