Train from Aarhus to Ry;
It’s both fast and easy to travel from Aarhus to Ry. The train ride takes just 33 minutes from Aarhus Central Station to Ry Station, making it a convenient starting point for your hike to Himmelbjerget.
The journey offers a chance to relax and ease into the shift from city life to nature. Trains run several times an hour, and there’s room for both bicycles and backpacks.
If you’re in the mood for a full-day adventure, cycling the scenic 36 kilometers from Aarhus is also a great option. And of course, if you're up for it, the entire route can be done on foot.
From Ry st. to Himmelbjerget;
The classic hiking trail from Aarhus to Silkeborg stretches over several days, but if you're looking for a more manageable taste, the section from Ry Station to Himmelbjerget is the perfect choice.
The route is approximately 7 kilometers and offers scenic variety through gently rolling terrain. Shortly after leaving the town of Ry, you'll veer off into the forest – and that’s where the adventure begins.
The path follows the shore of Julsø, winding through dense beech forests and open glades, where you might spot deer and other wildlife. There are plenty of great spots to rest along the way – and once you reach the top of Himmelbjerget, you'll be rewarded with one of Denmark’s most iconic views.
